Everything you need to know about this surf spot

Paparucos is a righthander located between two other breaks; Matadouro and Pedra Branca. It’s the wave breaking on the right side of the rock formation that you see in the water when you face the ocean from the parking of Matadouro beach. It can be surfed with all tides, but mid to high tide is normally the best. The wave has some sections to overcome, but with the right swell direction and conditions it can be really fun.

You surf on a flat reef with some shallow parts, but in general it’s pretty easy-going. When smaller, Paparucos is also accessible for beginning intermediates. Getting out of the water can be difficult with high tide and bigger waves. You can choose to enter/exit the water from the side of Pedra Branca or from Matadouro beach. Matadouro beach is a longer paddle, but often the easier option. Just take care of the rip current towards the rock formation in the water.
