Everything you need to know about this surf spot

At the north side of the Baia dos Dois Irmaos, just south of Coxos beach, you find a wave that is an absolute favourite of many surfers and has a reputation for being one of the best waves in the world. Coxos is a perfect right point break that follows the shape of the shoreline and is formed by a reef that is steadily and gradually sloped until the middle of the bay.

The wave at Coxos comes from deep water, resulting in a powerful wave that unloads on a series of rocky shelves. When the swell hits the reef in the right angle, Coxos is long, fast and hollow with different barrel sections. You can get tubes of multiple seconds here! It’s very consistent and can hold big swells. The best tide is low tide, but it can be surfed with other tides as well. The entry/exit is very tricky and sea urchins love this place, so make sure you know what you are doing before entering the water. And even if you know what you are doing, make sure you don’t go to the peak because that’s for locals only!

There is also a break on the other side of the bay, called Crazy Left.

Coxos is de best wave in Portugal for a reason
