Below you can find the most common questions regarding your holiday in Ericeira and the Corona-virus. However, the situation is ever changing and every 15 days the Portuguese government evaluates it and can introduce new regulations to contain the virus. We always recommend to also check with your embassy in Portugal or with an other competent authority for the latest information. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

Is travelling to Portugal for a holiday allowed?

In general, for EU and Schengen citizens it is possible to enter Portugal without quarantine. But since the situation is changing all the time and there are some exceptions with countries, we advise to always check with your country’s embassy in Portugal or other competent authority which restrictions might apply for you before you book your tickets.

Do I need to wear a facial mask?

Indoors in commercial facilities (airport, shops, museums, public transportation etc.) you need to wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose. In restaurants, you only need to wear one while getting in and out of the restaurant, not while seated. We recommend wearing it indoors in the surf house in the common facilities too. It is also mandatory to wear a face mask outdoors in situations where it is not possible to maintain the social distance from other people (think of busier streets, markets etc).

Do I need to maintain physical distance from other people?

You need to maintain 1,5-meter distance from other people. When this is not possible, it is mandatory to wear the face mask (also outdoors). At the moment it is forbidden to gather in groups of more than 5 persons unless they all live in the same household.

Is it allowed to go to the beach or go surfing?

It is allowed to go to the beach to sunbathe, surf and swim. You need to keep 1,5 meter distance from other people and follow the posted rules. The Portuguese government has released an app called “Praia Info” where you can see how busy the beaches are and also find other important information regarding going to the beach.

Can I go for dinner in a restaurant?

The restaurants are open in Portugal. It is mandatory to use a facemask when entering and leaving the restaurant. When you are seated on your table, you can take the mask off. The restaurants operate with reduced capacity and many new rules, so especially during the busier evenings like weekends; it is good to make a reservation. Some restaurants even require a reservation made in advance. The maximum amount of people on one table is 5.

Can I gather with other people?

By law it is not allowed to gather together in groups of more than 5 people unless they all live in the same household.

Are surf lessons possible?

Yes, our surf school is operating. There are some new rules also for the surf schools but the lessons are organized with the same quality as always.

Do you offer all your normal services at Ericeira Surf House?

We have to follow many new rules regarding the hygiene and safety, but we will provide all our normal services.

What kind of special actions do you take at the surf house to ensure everybody’s safety?

We follow the recommendations of the Portuguese officials for the containment of the virus. The common areas of the guest house will be cleaned and desinfected multiple times per day, we have created extra dining space so that everybody can sit with a safe distance from each other and we will arrange our services in a safe way. Also staff will wear facemasks and desinfection materials will be available throughout the guest house.

Are the airport shuttles running? What about taxi/Uber?

Our airport transfers will run, but with some limitations. We won’t drive with full cars (unless the group of people travel together). Also in the taxis and Ubers the front seat is not allowed to be occupied so each vehicle will have one place less than normally.

Is it possible to have a normal, relaxed holiday in Portugal?

Despite all the restrictions and new rules, the everyday life in Portugal feels already quite normal. It is good to bare in mind that in many every-day situations you might need a bit more time due to the restrictions and in general take others into account with distance and space. But with a little bit of patience and awareness, a relaxed holiday is definitely possible! Our 500m2 house and 1500m2 garden will make social distancing easy.
